CHAIR
DER ARTIST & DER BEOBACHTER
The object collection embodies two qualities of the circus in a minimalistic rocking chair and a suspended lamp.
DER ARTIST (german, the artist) is a rocking chair to playfully interact with ones own body balance. Simply through moving slightly, one is able to find weighing scale in any desired angle. Slipping into the role of the artists, who captivate the manege with their artistic performances, one can move and experience their own physical balance. However, if slowing down, the chair finds back into rest, adapting to the physical center of gravity. The round shape allows the body to recline in many different positions. The simple arched steel frame is finding a softness within its stark minimalism and pure geometric form. The very tightly woven fabric supports the graphical presence, as its firmly threaded around the stainless steel. Extruding its shape the object is strong in its visual statement. Distorting subtly as the body sits down, it's giving a soft, adaptiveness to the chair.
DER BEOBACHTER (german, the observer) is a monochrome light wandering through space on its own. By raising a brass counterweight, the light slowly moves up and creates an oscillating movement casting different geometries of light and shadow in the room. The motion, running for an hour, directs the focus of the viewer on consciously perceiving one's surroundings. The construction consists out of a thin steel wire, connecting the brass weight and the light source. The rotating mechanism in the top, that can be mounted to the ceiling, is powered by the simple down movement of the brass weight. Same as in the circus, one takes the role of the observer enhancing the effect of daydreaming.
